Tricuspid Valve Prolapse
Definition
Prolapse of any part of the tricuspid valve leaflets beyond the tricuspid annulus
Types
- Mid to late systolic
- Holosystolic (pansystolic)
M-Mode
- Mid to late systolic hammocking of the tricuspid valve leaflets
- Holosystolic hammocking of the tricuspid valve
2-D
- Prolapse of the septal, anterior, mid posterior leaflets individually or together superior to the tricuspid annulus
- The best views are the apical four-chamber view and the parasternal right ventricular inflow tract view
Doppler
- Tricuspid regurgitation (often predominantly late systolic)
Important to Note
Isolated tricuspid valve prolapse is rare. It is usually associated with mitral valve prolapse (10 to 15%)
